Hi there,

We’re back with another update, and it's a big one! We’re excited to announce CryoCloud version 2.11!

Version 2.11 introduces major performance improvements across the app, as well as smarter particle picking tools – all designed to accelerate your cryo-EM data processing workflows.

🚀 New Features

CryoCloud Motion Correction (MotionCorr CC)
Our new in-house, GPU-accelerated motion correction job, MotionCorr CC, delivers up to 4× faster motion correction compared to the Relion's implementation of motion correction previously available on CryoCloud. MotionCorr CC uses patch-based and dose-weighted alignment, and is fully compatible with the available polishing jobs.

Automatic Contamination Detection in CryoCloud Picker
The Picker now automatically detects both ice contaminations and carbon edges, and excludes particles from those areas helping you achieve cleaner particle stacks with minimal manual filtering.

Maximum Runtime Control
You can now define a maximum runtime for any job (default = 24 hours, except for Polishing = 72 hours).

⚠️ Sometimes jobs can get stuck and continue using compute resources unnecessarily. Setting a maximum runtime helps prevent this. If a classification or refinement job runs longer than expected and stops at the limit, you can easily continue it from the last iteration.

Improved Billing Logic
Filtering in the Billing page now supports AND/OR logic, giving teams more flexibility in monitoring compute costs and resource sharing. (Admin-facing feature)

✨ Improvements

Faster CryoCloud Picker Result Loading
CryoCloud Picker and Topaz result generation is now roughly 4× faster and more robust, greatly improving responsiveness when visualising outputs from large particle-picking jobs (e.g. datasets with many micrographs or particles).

Faster X-ray Dataset Loading and Project Setup
X-ray datasets and projects now load and display contents 10–20× faster, making it easier to navigate projects with hundreds of subsets.

Restrict Project Inputs to Matching Dataset Types

Projects can now only use datasets of the corresponding type (e.g. cryo-EM or X-ray), ensuring proper compatibility and preventing user errors.

Simplified Job Creation
The Add Job dialog has been streamlined – parent node selection is now automatic, making it quicker and easier to start new data processing jobs.

Specify Target Pixel Size During Particle Extraction
You can now control the extent of particle binning by defining a target pixel size in an Extract job. This works with both automatically calculated and manually defined box sizes.
